Fisker Automotive has reportedly snatched up an additional $150 million through it latest round of private fundraising, adding to the $300 million it has already raised, the $529 million awarded from the U.S. Department of Energy, and the $21.5 million in grants and loans it has received from the state of Delaware.

According to a report from Bloomberg, Henrik Fisker, chief executive officer of Fisker Automotive, stated that the funds will be used for the development of Project Nina, which includes a range of plug-in hybrid models with a projected base price of $47,000 and a launch date scheduled for late 2012. However, Fisker spokesman Roger Ormisher apparently told Auto Observer that a portion of the funds will be set aside to "ensure" (we'll see) the launch of the automaker's plug-in hybrid Karma.

Tom Appel: I won’t take up the styling issue. Plenty of people I showed this car to over the weekend thought it looked great. My issue is price. Though I like Crosstour, and completely appreciate its usefulness, the $37,000 sticker on our tester is a tough pill to swallow. If the cabin felt a little more luxurious and was a wee bit quieter, I could see recommending this car. But for the money, shoppers would be better served by the larger Mazda CX-9 with its lavishly appointed interior, or Honda's own excellent, stronger-value Pilot.
Rick Cotta: A traditional square-back wagon offers more cargo versatility and most have better rear-corner visibility as well, but the Crosstour is an interesting blend of automotive style and SUV substance.
Jennifer Geiger: If you're a fan of the benchmark Accord sedan, but interested in a bit more cargo versatility and optional all-wheel drive, Crosstour might make sense for you. Where the logic breaks down, however, is the extra $5,000+ you'll pay for it compared to a similarly equipped sedan. Also, frugal 4-cylinder power isn't an option here.
Ed Piotrowski: Looking at the Accord Crosstour on its own, this is a highly versatile wagon with a spacious interior and, despite comparatively meager specs, outstanding cargo-carrying flexibility. It drives pretty well, too, with very good power and capable, if not exciting, handling. Where the value equation breaks down a bit is when it comes to price. The all-wheel drive EX-L with Navigation is cheaper than a comparably equipped Ford Edge AWD Limited ($40,385); Honda Pilot AWD Touring ($39,355); Toyota Venza AWD V6 ($37,505); or Volvo XC70 T6 ($49,700). However, the Crosstour is more costly than the Chevrolet Equinox AWD LTZ V6 ($34,980); Dodge Journey AWD R/T ($32,020); and Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited ($35,515). In this company, the loaded Crosstour is a little tough to justify. A stronger case can be made for the base front-drive EX model, which can be had for just a shade more than $30,000, yet is equipped with most every feature buyers could want.

After being out of the public eye for six years, Buick has decided to resurrect their midsize sedan. The all-new 2011 Buick Regal will be on sale around August of this year and is aimed at shoppers who are poised to pounce on popular midsize models such as the 2010 Lexus ES350, 2010 Acura TSX, 2010 Mazda Mazda6 and 2010 Volkswagen Passat.

The Regal (which shares the LaCrosse’s excellent chassis) is based on the brilliant Opel Insignia, which is available only in Europe. While the LaCrosse is tuned more for comfort, the Regal is geared more towards those who pine for a sportier driving experience. The Regal will be available with two different powerplants: a 2.4-liter four cylinder engine producing 182 horsepower and a smaller, more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder which will produce 220 horsepower. Both engine options will be available with a six-speed automatic with the ability to manually shift without the vaunted clutch pedal.

Fuel economy is at the forefront of everyone’s concern today, and Buick is fully aware of it. The 2011 Regal doesn’t disappoint, earning an estimated 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

Buick has yet to release pricing, but our sources state that pricing should be around $25k, while the sportier turbocharged model should hover a little over the psychological $30k price point.
